The dojo (school) honoring this philosophy was founded by Jose R. Villanueva, who began his training in Kenpo Karate in 1979 under the instruction of Master Professor Bill Grossman1, 9th Degree Black Belt. Villanueva has been teaching since 1990.  Also, he currently holds the rank of Sifu (instructor) of Kenpo Karate, 4th Degree Black Belt.

Some of Sifu Villanueva's achievements within the California Karate League2 (CKL) are:

• 1981 Forms Competitor of the Year (1st Place)

• 1982 Forms Competitor of the Year (2nd Place)  

• 1983 Forms Competitor of the Year (1st Place)  

• 1983 Junior Grand Champion Winner

In addition, Sifu Villanueva was honored as inductee in the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame3 on August 7, 2004.

Sifu Jose R. Villanueva and his school – Martial Science Technology:  Self-Defense received a commendation from Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) on March 23, 2005.
